First-time author, Emily Brown, will be presenting her work of speculative fiction, No Way But Through. In this novel she turns the refugee narrative on its head by imagining a scenario in which American survivors are forced to flee a war-ravished country. No Way But Through follows the Smiths, who fine themselves in a refugee camp in Mexico, where they are stripped of their dignity and basic necessities are hard to come by. Terrible choices must be made if they are to survive. This is a timely piece of work that is sure to provide ample material for discussion.
