A bright, young, American boy is transported across the European centuries by a history book with magical properties. His guide is a Scotsman who serves as mentor and guide. Behind it all is a mysterious, dark-haired young woman who oversees the boy's journey.
Along the way, the boy's mind and body are transformed as he garners the lessons of his ancestors administered by luminaries, both legendary and historical, such as Achilles, Socrates, Julius Caesar, Dante, and many others.
